Mayumba National Park

Park Excursions

Mayumba National Park and its partners are working hard to realize a vision for the region's tourism future. In our vision, a high quality hotel will receive visitors, where a choice of excursions, visits, and other activities can be chosen from. Realizing this requires further state and private sector investment, in transport infrastructure, hotel services, and in recreational equipment. Mayumba is unlikely to ever be a swarming beach resort with high-rise hotel blocks and packed beaches. Most of it's charm comes from the tranquil and slow pace of life around here. However, we do hope that in the near future, the Park will be able to offer visitors activities from among the following pages, and that watersports and other equipment will be available. Until that time, Mayumba remains a destination first and foremost for those wishing to discover the area for themselves, and to take a more adventurous view of things. The people of Mayumba and the Park Staff will do everything they can to ensure that you get the most out of your trip.

Whalewatching Excursions:

Be a part of groundbreaking whale research! It is hoped that in the future, private whalewatching excursions will become available with the National Park whale research team. You'll help the team follow and photograph an important population of humpback whales; dolphins are often seen from the research boat as well. The whale migration takes place between June and October. The peak of the season is during July and August.

Sea Turtle Outings

Seeing Turtles:

Just by being in Gabon , your chances of seeing sea turtles are greatly improved. However the timing of your visit is important. Leatherback turtles only come ashore to nest between November and April, with the peak months being December, January and February. The coast of the Mayumba National Park has high densities of nesting females throughout this period, and with patience, it should be possible to come face to face with a leatherback during these three months. Outside of the peak months, turtles can still be seen, but there is a greater element of chance involved.

Watching turtles nest on the beach at Mayumba is one of the many magical experiences this unique coastline has to offer. We would be delighted to to share this extraordinary experience with you and feel sure that you will find it a deeply rewarding and memorable glimpse into the life of one of the world's most charismatic and mysterious animals.
