Mayumba National Park

Weather

Mayumba enjoys warm weather throughout the year. Whether or not you perceive any changes in the climate depends upon where you are coming from. In general, the maximum daytime temperatures hover in the region of 30 to 32 degrees Celsius, while at night, the temperature drops to a balmy 23 to 24 degrees. The weather changes during the annual dry season, which stretches from mid-May to mid September. During this time, temperatures can drop to around 19 degrees at night and 26 degrees during the day. This results in the locals digging out their thick coats and sweaters, and complaining about the bitter weather, but is seldom a problem for visitors, who will still be delighted in the refreshing evenings and comfortable days. The dry season brings more overcast skies, but the reduced humidity and temperature make hiking and other strenuous activities altogether more enjoyable. Outside of the dry season, the sky is almost always blue and the sea sparkling, whereas dry season colors tend to be more overcast and muted. However, this is a small price to pay for some of the best whale observations on the planet!

During June, July and August, any rain at all is extremely rare while from October to February, occasional downpours can be pretty much guaranteed. The weather is a part of the Mayumba experience. The big skies of the coast provide a magnificent stage for the ever changing theater of cumulous giants, ethereal cirrus, and the fabulous deep blue of the stratosphere.
